Villa San Siro is a delightful,
thoroughly modernized upscale home located on the western
shore of Lago di Como above the village of San Siro
from which it takes its name. The house is located above the
water overlooking the lake; it is not on the
edge of the lake shore. What you get in return is some of
the most enchanting views of the lake we have seen.
Parking is no problem, as an
electronically controlled gate admits you to the villa’s
private entrance drive. A delightful glass-enclosed loggia
enjoying those beautiful views leads into San Siro’s
open-plan living/dining room divided by a counter from the
brand-new kitchen with everything. A half-flight of stairs
brings you to a children’s bedroom with two twin beds,
while a further half-flight leads to a master bedroom with
en-suite bath and a second twin bedroom with a nearby bath
off the hall. Both baths have stall showers. Downstairs is
the laundry room, plus, outside, a beautiful loggia, lawn,
and fenced garden.
Villa San Siro is an upscale
house furnished tastefully and comfortably throughout. The
owners did this up for their own use, not for rental.
San Siro is a significant lakeside
town with good basic shopping, services, and restaurants.
Menaggio, 4 miles south, offers more extensive and more elegant
shopping as well as sports facilities and the dock where you’ll
be able to catch the boats and hydrofoils up and down the
lake between Switzerland and the city of Como, and, perhaps
more importantly, across the lake to Varenna and Bellagio.
Lugano is about 30 miles, while Milan is about 50 miles away,
and the Milan-Malpensa airport is about 90 minutes away, more
or less, depending on traffic. You can rent a little boat
for yourselves in Santa Maria, and Menaggio has a lakeside
sports complex with swimming pool and tennis court. There
are also several fine golf courses in the vicinity.
We consider San Siro to be a
very good house for 2 couples plus 2 children. In sum: A lovely
home with beautiful views in an excellent position for touring
Lake Como.
