The Villa Cernobbio meets everyone’s dream to be right on the shore of an Italian lake, and Lake Como at that. You’re walking distance to restaurants, plus a short drive – or boat ride – to the beautiful, vibrant city of Como or to the elegant resort “village” of Cernobbio. Views from the villa are really spectacular, and there’s a lovely terrace for you to sit and enjoy it while lounging or dining. And speaking of boats, you can – if you have arranged a water taxi or private boat rental – pull right up to the house; and if you haven’t, there’s the public dock at about 400 meters’ distance from which you can catch one of the boats or hydrofoils that ply up, down, and across the lake. There’s also a bus that stops at 150 meters from the house so that you don’t have to take the car into Como city.
The Villa Cernobbio is more historic than “fancy”. It has lots of modern features besides the usual laundry, dishwasher, microwave, stereo, and DVD player: there’s a satellite plasma TV, as well as high-speed wi-fi internet, and, surprisingly, perhaps, a sauna and small fitness room.
The villa lies along a secondary lakefront road, meaning no truck traffic, and in any event all important rooms – living, dining, and bedrooms – all face the lake, meaning essentially no road noise.
Rooms are large and luminous. The whole villa measures about between 6000 and 7000 square feet. Floors are marble mosaic; many of the light fixtures are Murano glass.
The Villa Cernobbio develops over three floors; one enters at the middle level into a spacous living room with French doors leading out onto the terrace with that unforgettable panorama of the lake and of the mountains beyond. There’s a second, more informal living room with the satellite TV, and a loggia with billiard table.
Downstairs, you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen with 5-burner stove, dishwasher, espresso maker, fridge/freezer with icemaker, and microwave. The dining room is brightly sunlit, with a lake view, garden access, and a working fireplace. The fitness/games room is on this level as well, with a shower adjacent. A double bedroom with en-suite shower room plus a separate guest half-bath complete the garden level.
The top floor of the villa contains a “master” bedroom with its own terrace overlooking the lake, dressing room, and en-suite bathroom. A double bedroom, with lake view, and a twin bedroom share another bathroom.
Private parking for 2 cars; additional parking, if necessary, is in paid garages nearby. Housekeeping is included twice weekly on Wednesday and Saturday, and additional housekeeping is available upon request for extra.
Lake Como is a sophisticated resort area; it is not a place to “get away from it all”. You’ll enjoy the beautiful views; boating; motoring; visiting historic villas and gardens; fine dining; excellent shopping from couture to outlet; water sports from jet skiing to kayaking; the nearby gaming tables of Campione d’Italia and Lugano; golfing – 9 courses within 50 kilometers; and much, much more, including, if you like, excursions to Lakes Maggiore and Orta as well as to the city of Milan, easily reachable by train from Como city.
