Casa Adriano is a great house
for either couples sharing together or for one or two families.
The location is unbeatable, just about halfway between Florence
and Siena. The nearest town is Greve, about four miles distant.
The unpaved section of the approach road goes for something
close to two miles, and the road is rough and steep at points,
though by no means daunting for an accomplished driver.
Casa Adriano offers some of
the loveliest and unusual views we have seen in Tuscany, including
both sweeping countryside and more intimate tucked-away valleys
dotted with villas.
Casa Adriano is a good-sized
house with living room, separate dining room, breakfast nook,
and kitchen. Up a staircase with no railing is a single bedroom
with its own bath (shower only). Up another staircase are
the rest of the bedrooms: two matrimonials, each with its
own bath (one with shower and one with tub/hand-held shower),
and two twins which share a bath (tub/shower) between them.
The topmost level houses a separate
window-lined living room with magnificent views from wherever
you sit. There are also two lovely terraces. The house is
equipped with a telephone, television, washing machine, dishwasher,
central heat, and household help upon request. Casa Adriano
was furnished for its owner, not for rental, and that personal
feeling is reflected throughout.
Casa Adriano is not fully independent.
It is set in what is known in Italy as a "borgo",
a charming grouplet of stone buildings occupied by the estate
staff and by relatives of the owners in summer. The brand-new
swimming pool, located at the end of a path about three minutes'
walk down from the house, is occasionally used by two or three
people who live in the borgo. The house is furnished to a
high standard and we highly recommend it.
