    Accommodates 7 — 4 Bedrooms — 3 Baths — Swimming Pool — Tennis Court — Internet

Casa Alta is a wonderfully renovated farmhouse in the very heart of Chianti country, about 6 kilometers away from Greve in Chianti, the charming headquarters of wine production in this region of Italy. You’re just about halfway on the straight line between Florence and Siena. How much more cenral can you be? Casa Alta is surrounded by family-owned olive groves and vineyards, and as its name suggests, its position is an elevated one. Casa Alta’s private swimming pool and tennis court, for example, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

So what’s not to like? The approach road is not for timid drivers nor for low-slung cars. If you’ve just bought that BMW in Germany, you might want to think twice about the 3.5-kilometer unpaved approach road uphill from the main Chianti road, plus the final 500-meter track. The road is absolutely not difficult for any skilled driver, but we’ve had clients in the past from places like Florida and Denmark who had never negotiated any sort of steep incline. You just can’t be a beginner on a stick shift on a road like this. The reward is that spectacular position and equally spectacular view.

Casa Alta, being built against the side of a hill, develops over several levels. On the ground floor, you’ve got a large living room with original Tuscan terracotta floors, oak-beamed ceilings, an open fireplace, and spendid views. An arch leads into a second gracious siting area. Six steps lead down into a charming kitchen with pale blue beams, a second open fireplace, and all appliances. All three of these rooms have direct garden access.

Four steps lead up from the sitting room to Casa Alta’s beautiful dining room with oak table seating 10-12. This level also houses the master bedroom with an indivisible matrimonial bed, leading to an en-suite bathroom (double sink, tub with hand-held shower).

A short staircase leads up to the next level, home to the villa’s remaining three bedrooms: one queen with en-suite shower room; and another queen bedroom and a single bedroom which together share another shower room. All of these sunny bedrooms have windows taking full advantage of the spectacular views below.

The swimming pool is 6x12 meters and has a diving board. The all-weather tennis court is illuminated for evening play. There’s also a billard room located in a gazebo in the garden. A covered loggia with panoramic views becomes in effect a third living room which leads in turn to a jasmine-covered pergola for al-fresco dining. Dishwasher, washing machine, telephone, television, crib, high chair, screens on bedroom windows. Housekeeping is included twice during the week, and extra hours are available, as well as cooking, and cooking lessons. Broadband internet is now available at Casa Alta.

For total privacy in the heart of the most beautiful part of the whole Chianti countryside, you cannot beat Casa Alta.
