Cennina is a little medieval "borgo" — a hamlet or grouplet of buildings — which historically housed the dependents of an adjacent castle or villa. There might also have been smaller outbuildings to house animals or to store hay or grain.

Cennina fits this pattern. And the very evocative castellated villa to which it was attached still exists, really picturesque, and dominating the entire hamlet in a most evocative way. The hamlet sits in 750 acres of gorgeous countryside, with fields, vineyards, and olive groves.

The location is ideal, about equidistant from Arezzo, Florence, and Siena. The nearest villages are Bucine and Ambra, both with all services you might require: bank, post office, laundry, restaurants, etc. Bucine has a little train station with parking, thus making driving into either Florence or Arezzo unnecessary.

Cennina's current owners have transformed the entire hamlet into a series of totally independent holiday homes, each with its own independent entrance and outdoor space for alfresco lounging and dining. Each accommodation is different in terms of furnishings, layout, and room size — this isn't an American suburban "development", after all.

At the same time, all of the units have certain things in common: generous spaces (even the 1-bedrooom units are upwards of 900-1000 square feet; good beds; a bathroom to every bedroom, with two exceptions; an air-conditioning unit in each bedroom; baths with good stall showers; a telephone. If you bring a laptop, there is free wi-fi available during business hours in the area around estate office. The estate does NOT have laundry facilities, but the nearby villages have same-day wash-and-fold and dry-cleaning services to hand.

The estate swimming pool is an unusually large 8 x 20 meters.

One of the most convenient features of Cennina is its on-site restaurant, open for breakfast and for evening meals for those who are too tired (or too lazy) either to cook or to leave the estate. Prices are reasonable.
