    Fonterutoli - Chianti

    print this page

Located in the heart of Chianti just 8 miles north of Siena, Fonterutoli is a charming stone hamlet (not more than 60 people call it home year-round) which is essentially a company town owned by a family engaged in the wine and olive oil business. Recently they began renting individual houses in the hamlet.

What will you experience at Fonterutoli being part of a village? The slow pace of a place this size and, frankly, this authentic. You can take the time to see local people engaged in the practices of wine and olive oil production, especially interesting during harvest. Take your meals at the excellent village trattoria. Relax by the private pool located about 300 feet away from the properties (the pool is only for the guests of these properties, not the entire village). Tennis courts are 2 miles away. A car is advisable here, but if your group doesn't want to go in the same direction every day, you can avail yourselves of public buses heading for Florence and Siena that stop at the village gate.

We have offered Fonterutoli now for over 15 years, and the reaction from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive.

We offer 2 village properties for your consideration:

    Pastore
    Accommodates 8 — 4 Bedrooms — 3 Baths

This property has been completely renovated to a very nice standard. The house has three fairly equal bedrooms, one matrimonial and two twin, plus a smaller fourth (twin) bedroom. Mattresses are adequate. There are a smallish living room and a very spacious, well-equipped open-plan kitchen/dining room with a fireplace. The true highlight of Pastore is not the interior (which is nice in any case), but rather the vast open loggia that serves as the primary living and dining space from spring to fall. The views from the loggia are really something special. This is where you will spend most of your time when you are at the house. Washing machine, dishwasher, heating, telephone. A delightful house all the way around.

    Limonaia
    Accommodates 7 — 4 Bedrooms — 3 Baths

The owners themselves occupy this house when they stay on the estate during the winter months. You enter the house from a small wisteria-covered loggia. The interior is quite charming and typical of Tuscan country houses with beamed ceilings and cotto floors. Furnishings are country elegant, with a delightful living room with fireplace, separate raised dining area with seating for 8, and four bedrooms: one queen with en-suite full bath; one twin with en-suite bath (shower only); and a twin and a single bedroom which share a bath (shower only). The double bedrooms are pretty much equal, making Limonaia an excellent choice for 3 couples. The kitchen has a washer and dishwasher, and there is a telephone. Eating outside is a bit of a problem at Limonaia; essentially, you have to prepare a sort of picnic and carry your food over to the private park area near the swimming pool. Despite this, Limonaia is our personal favorite among the offerings at Fonterutoli.
