Montecastello - Todi

Montecastello is the name we
have given to a lovely inn opened 10 years ago by a local
family from Todi. The inn has 15 rooms, a restaurant, a swimming
pool, and incredibly lovely views over the surrounding countryside.
Though the property is somewhat remote, the location in Umbria
is excellent. Doglio, a little hamlet down the road a mile
or less, has a couple of coffee bars, a trattoria, and simple
grocery shopping. Todi and Montecastello di Vibio, the two
nearest cities, each about 10 minutes' drive, have everything
else you could want.
The rooms at the inn, however,
aren't what we offer. They're fine — indeed, they're
first-rate — but they aren't what we do for a living.
Rather, we offer three fully free-standing cottages on the
grounds of the inn. The beauty of these cottages is that you
have totally private accommodations with the security which
comes from the back-up of the hotel services: advice on sightseeing
and restaurants, the pool, meeting other European guests,
not to mention the possibility of guided excursions in the
area, either by car, by foot, by mountain bike, or on horseback.
The cottages are especially
attractive for families with children. They are clean and
comfortable, with all the essentials including brand-new bathrooms,
good kitchens, and excellent beds. But the cottages are not
fancy, and they aren't large. Linens are changed midweek,
and there is a new satellite TV system. Prices, as you can
see, are excellent; pension arrangements can be made as well;
inquire on this.
La Noce
Accommodates 6 — 3 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Located about 300 meters from
the main nucleus of the inn complex, La Noce enjoys fantastic
views and is totally private. It's all on one level: living/dining
with fireplace; kitchen with fridge, conventional oven and
stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine; one matrimonial
and one twin bedroom which share a full bath; and one matrimonial
bedroom with bath (shower only) en-suite. Lovely front porch
and surrounding grounds. No private phone; you can receive
messages in emergencies at the inn or use its public phone.
Rent a cell phone if you feel you need one.
La Nonna
Accommodates 4 — 2 Bedrooms
— 2 Baths
Right in the nucleus of the
inn complex, La Nonna is even more convenient to the swimming
pool and restaurant. (We honestly don't think this place would
ever be really noisy, but if absolute privacy from other human
beings is a concern, you'd probably be happier in La Noce.)
Again, all on one floor, with private garden and front terrace.
Living/dining; kitchen exactly as La Noce but without the
microwave; two matrimonial (or twin) bedrooms with en-suite
baths (one shower only, one tub and hand-held shower). Phone
connected to the hotel.
Ulivi
Accommodates 4+2 — 2+ Bedrooms, 2 Baths
Ulivi is yet a third free-standing cottage at Montecastello. Outside, there's lawn space to lounge on, plus a covered loggia with good seating. Inside, you'll find an nice open-plan living/dining room with two sofas set on either side of a rustic fireplace and a table seating 6 comfortably. The fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher/washing machine) is open to the living/dining. Matrimonial bedroom, twin bedroom, and two baths (one with shower over tub, one with shower only). In addition, up a spiral staircase and overlooking the living room is an open loft with a rail and containing another matrimonial mattress set directly onto the floor of the loft. Great for children over about 8 years old or teens, but probably not for younger children or adults. Same pool privileges as the other cottages. Phone, satellite TV.
The three Montecastello cottages
- La Noce, La Nonna, and Ulivi, are
wonderful, comfortable places in a spectacular setting.
