    La Paloma - Lake Garda/Verona

    print this page

    Accommodates 10+ — 5 Bedrooms — 5 Baths — Swimming Pool
    Air-Conditioning — Internet

The first thing you need to know about La Paloma is that it is NOT on Lake Garda, nor does it have a lake view. It is on a gorgeous estate A VERY SHORT DRIVE directly south of the southern end of the lake, just about one kilometer from the town of Peschiera. One kilometer. What does this mean? It means virtually immediate access to both autostrada and train station for getting around the region easily. It means that you’re moments from all shops and services. More to the point, it means no lakeside gridlock: If you want the lake, you can choose YOUR time to visit it, hopefully those times of the day when there’s less traffic and when you can find a place to park!

The second thing you need to know about La Paloma is that it is part of a huge historic estate belonging to the same noble family for the past four centuries. At the center of this domain lies the family villa, a gorgeous stately home dating from the early 18th century and where the present members of the family live. It is they who are your hosts at La Paloma. Immediately continuous to their villa is a series of structures – sort of 18th-century “townhouses” – which the owners have divided up into various rental accommodations, both long- and short-term, which we do not offer (for the moment).

All of this is to give you a broader picture of La Paloma’s “context”. It essence, while La Paloma is totally private and independent, it is definitely not isolated. It is located just outside the ancient courtyard and has its own independent entrance, with a private garden just in front, with appropriate garden furniture and shady areas for alfresco dining and reading. It was personally furnished by the owners with the intention of having guests live a unique experience of times past, yet still enjoying the conveniences of 21st-century life. For example, La Paloma is fully air-conditioned, a rarity among Italian country houses for rent.

La Paloma’s ground floor consists of a sunny living room, separate dining room with table seating 10, fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, and guest half-bath. Also on ground level are a twin bedroom with adjacent bath. Up one level are three additional bedrooms, one twin and two matrimonial, each with its own bath. From this floor a staircase leads up to the last two levels of the villa, which are in a delighful and romantic tower. On the first of these levels is a bathroom, while on the second you’ll find the villa’s fifth bedroom.

Thus, what we like about La Paloma is it’s flexibility. It is not only ideal for groups of couples traveling together; it also adapts itself well for two or even three small families or one extended family.

Each room has different characteristics and furnishings, with antiques and old prints and paintings intermixed with tasteful contemporary pieces. Some bedrooms look out over the beautiful grounds of the adjacent golf club (see below); others overlook the estate courtyard and garden.

Amenities include washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, satellite TV, DVD player, CD, telephone, and high-speed internet connection. Guests also have access to all of the services of the adjoining golf club, including the courses themselves and a wellness center, tennis courts, and soccer field, basketball courts, beach volley, semi-Olympic swimming pool, and children’s swimming pool. These swimming pools are in addition to the estate 5-by-16-meter swimming pool which La Paloma shares along with other guests of the estate.

This is an area full of attractions, both natural and cultural. Natural? Lake Garda itself, of course, with its innumerable boating, swimming, and hiking opportunities, not to mention wine-tasting at one of the many vineyards dotting its hilly shores. Cultural? The many towns, villages, and gardens hugging the shores of the lake are of immense interest. In addition, major art cities like Verona, Vicenza, Brescia, Bergamo, and Mantova are within easy reach for daytrips.

You’re more than 10 persons? In this case, you can easily combine La Paloma with one or more of the other accommodations available for rent on the estate, all of which are fully air-conditioned and as comfortably and elegantly furnished as La Paloma itself. Ask us about this, and we’ll tell you in detail what’s possible and at what cost.

If you’re looking to spend time in a new area of Italy, with lots to do and with upscale amenities, we urge you to consider La Paloma. You won’t regret it.
