    Lucilla - San Gimignano

    print this page

San Gimignano is justly famous as being one of the most, perhaps even the most, picturesque hilltown in all Tuscany. It is particularly renowned for its collection of medieval towers surrounding the central piazza. San Gimignano is a big destination for travelers: it gets three stars in the Green Michelin. It is busy in the daytime. Despite this, it retains all its authenticity and charm; tranquility reigns away from the main square. All the year long, San Gimignano boasts fascinating musical and artistic activities.

San Gimignano is located in a particularly beautiful stretch of the Tuscan countryside. Everything is close by: Siena, Florence, Volterra, Lucca, the Chianti Classico, the coast. Can you stay in San Gimignano without a car? Yes, definitely, especially if your purpose is to immerse yourself in the life of a real Tuscan hilltown. But the train doesn’t come here: Your excursions must be made by bus, and the bus system is pretty good. But if you want to do intensive excursions, on an almost-daily basis, you’ll do better with a car which you park in a public lot.

We’ve found a beautiful pair of small flats, each for two people. Both are charmingly, even elegantly furnished by an owner who has real taste. These are more than just “rental units”: they have the feel of a truly sophisticated hotel suite. Each flat has an independent heating system, satellite TV, and washing machine, but no dishwasher or telephone; rent a cell phone if you need one, plus there are public internet points in the immediate neighborhood for email access. Garage available at about $50 per week; otherwise park just outside the walls in public lots or along the road, about a 10-minute walk from the center.

    Lucilla
    Accommodates 2

Located just on the edge of the village, this flat consists of a narrow living/dining room, twin bedroom, kitchenette, bath (shower only), lovely view onto a garden and the countryside beyond.

    Casa Maria Sole
    Accommodates 2

Located right in the heart of the town, yet silent, Casa Maria Sole has a comfortable, nicely sized living/dining room, matrimonial bedroom, full kitchen, bath (shower only). Step outside and you find yourself in the midst of absolutely everything.
